BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE: The Cal Shakes Campaign
By 2009, years of occupancy and exposure to the elements had affected our amphitheater and surrounding grounds greatly. Our physical infrastructure—including many buildings originally intended to be temporary—was outmoded, insufficient, and urgently in need of attention. In October 2009, we demolished the dilapidated trailers onsite, and began construction on a new 7,850 square foot permanent building.
On June 3, 2010, we unveiled our brand-new facility, designed to truly support the artists, artisans, and patrons who call Cal Shakes their theatrical home. The Sharon Simpson Center—named for Bay Area philanthropist, long-time member of the Cal Shakes Board of Directors, and Building for the Future co-chair Sharon Simpson—includes a new café and restrooms; dressing rooms and green room; and workspace and offices.
We’re almost finished.
With $400,000 remaining to raise to meet our fundraising goal of $8.5 million, we are in the home stretch. Join us as we continue to Build for the Future.
UPDATE (7/26/10): Starting now, all new gifts to Building for the Future will be instantly doubled, thanks to an additional $100,000 pledged by our board and friends as a challenge to complete our fundraising. Make your gift today by clicking on the button below.
