WORLD PREMIERE
THE VERONA PROJECTWritten and Directed
A brand-new work inspired by (but not limited to) The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Verona Project heralds the Cal Shakes debut of nationally-renowned writer-director Amanda Dehnert. The Verona Project isn't just a play. It's also a band—eight actors with three times as many instruments—performing a hybrid of theater and live concert that marries Shakespeare to fairytales to real life, infusing it all with enough joyful exuberance to rock the Bruns to the imaginary rafters. The Verona Project tells the story of two boyhood best friends coming of age; the boy and the girl who come between them; and their journey toward figuring out who they all want to love, who they are, and who they want to become. |
Amanda Dehnert, playwright and director: “Verona's characters are trying to figure out who they are as individuals and who they want to become. They are adventurous, wonderful, awful, funny, completely real people. This adaptation works like a modern once-upon-a-time, and is simultaneously infused with both the youthful spirit of self-expression and discovery and the awareness that we always can get from fables that this is something universal and timeless.” |
